Follett Higher Education is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Director of User Experience to lead our UX team and drive the creation of intuitive, seamless, and delightful user experiences across our product portfolio. As a leader in the Collegiate Retail space, Follett's technology is used at more than 1,200 college campuses as solutions for administrators, instructors, and students. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a user-centric design strategy, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and championing UX best practices throughout the organization.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Define and drive the overall UX vision and strategy in alignment with the company's goals and user needs.
- Lead and inspire a team of UX professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of creativity and innovation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, and go-to-market team members, to ensure cohesive and effective UX solutions.
User Research and Insights:
- Conduct user research activities, such as interviews, usability testing, and surveys, to gain deep insights into user behaviors, preferences, and pain points.
- Translate research findings into actionable design improvements and recommendations for product enhancements.
- Establish and maintain user personas, user journey maps, and other UX documentation.
UX Design and Prototyping:
- Oversee the end-to-end UX design process, from concept ideation to wireframing, prototyping, and final visual design.
- Collaborate with designers and developers to create user interfaces that balance aesthetics, functionality, and usability.
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusivity in design, ensuring that our products are usable by diverse user groups.
UX Testing and Iteration:
- Conduct usability testing and iterate on designs based on user feedback and data-driven insights.
- Collaborate with analytics teams to track user engagement and behavior, using data to inform design decisions.
- Implement and maintain a continuous improvement framework for UX, ensuring iterative enhancements based on user feedback and industry trends.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align UX goals with business objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and cross-functional approach to UX, promoting effective communication and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to ensure consistent brand experience across all touchpoints.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 10 years of experience in user experience design.
- 5 years of experience leading UX teams.
- Ability to communicate concepts, design rationale, and design details verbally, visually, and in written format.
- Proficiency in user research methodologies, including usability testing, interviews, and surveys.
- Strong knowledge of UX design principles, interaction design, and information architecture.
- Experience with design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Axure.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and an ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel minimally, up to 10% annually.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in education technology, preferably for higher education.
- Working knowledge of the latest accessibility standards.
